I am Deanna Guasch and I am currently pursuing my Master of Arts in Teaching in Elementary Education at Sierra Nevada University. I have completed most of the program and am on track to having my own classroom by Spring 2022. I enjoy connecting with students and their families daily to build relationships make sure the students feel welcome and loved. I want my students to gain a love for learning and understand the tools they need to become lifelong learners. My mission is to use my enthusiasm and hard work to teach and inspire the students. The students thrive off of the teachers’ enthusiasm and positivity and feel that way about learning.

I completed my student teaching experience in kindergarten at Incline Elementary School. I chose to teach kindergarten because it can be challenging but very rewarding. Kindergarten is a great place to learn about classroom management that sets up the students for their whole lives. I love spending my days teaching young children and watching their lightbulbs click on when they learn something new. The interesting stories and different perspectives these students have taught me new things as well as brightened my day. I look forward to teaching kindergarteners every day and I hope that they look forward to spending their days with me.

Teaching philosophy

My classroom uses the teaching philosophy of Progressivism mixed with some traditional methods. I want the teacher to be the guide and the classroom to be student-focused. I believe that standards should be taught but in a student-centered way. Students are individuals and should be treated and taught like one. The teacher provides the information and is available to assist the students in any way possible. The environment will include a balance of whole group discussion, lectures, and group activities mixed with individual activities. Children learn through discovery and when they can make connections on their own. I teach by allowing students to discover rather than just telling them information. The teacher’s role is to help guide the students to those discoveries by asking questions and showing evidence. By fostering a sense of curiosity, students will grow their love of learning and become lifelong learners.

It is important for my classroom to have a successful classroom management plan to enrich the student’s education. An important part of education is a safe and orderly environment for the students. As the teacher, I will implement and continue a positive classroom management plan and help build a sense of community in and outside of the classroom. If children learn the basics and the skills, they will be able to learn everything they want to know. What matters to me is encouraging students’ curiosity and being respectful to others.
